The award-winning Born Warriors trilogy is the result of a groundbreaking personal odyssey to document the ancient fighting sport of Lethwei, which has survived in Myanmar despite decades of violence and government control.
This documentary series—shot over a ten-year period—follows the unique, indigenous bare-knuckle fighting sport as the fighters, trainers, and promoters survive the harsh control of a brutal military dictatorship and into the early years of a promising period of democratic reform that has fostered the rebirth of the sport.

In this first documentary, shot before Myanmar’s era of democratic reform, we are taken into the world of bare-knuckle fighting that has mostly survived in rural villages; we witness the unbridled sacrifice and passion of a small group of promoters, fighters and trainers who attempt to keep the sport alive in the major cities in spite of an obvious lack of means and support.
